Montauk Lighthouse

Description

The first lighthouse in New York, Montauk Lighthouse was authorized by the second congress under George Washington in 1792. Today, it is the fourth oldest lighthouse still active. Over 137 iron steps lead to the top of the tower, and the flash from light can be seen from 19 nautical miles every 5 seconds.
