Description
Ditch Plains Beach, Montauk, New York.
Once described as "The Place where the brooks opens; the ditch outlet of Great Pond on the south", or the word Choppaughshapaughhausuck for short, and is how Ditch Plains got its name.
In 1852, a life saving station was found here, then converted to a U.S. Coast Guard Station from 1915-1956. The station eventually would be moved up the beach 1 mile North, where it turned into a private residence, and today, can be rented out.
