Description

Scotts Bluff is composed of 5 separately named Rock formations and stands over 800 ft above the North Platte River.

It is named after Hiram Scott, who was a clerk for the Rocky Mountain Fur company, and died near the bluff.

Over 250,000 people passed Scotts Bluff between 1843 to 1869, and it remained one of the most important landmark on the Oregon Trail, California Trail, and Pony Express Trail. And even visible from the Mormon Trail.

The Bluffs were the second most mentioned landmark in the Emigrants Trails in pioneer journals and diaries.
