Eastern Timber Rattlesnake, Pennsylvania

Description

Timber rattlesnakes avg 2.5-5 ft. in length and have a wide distribution across the US, sometimes as far north as New York and as far south as Florida.

The tail is made of Keratin, the same as your finger nails and hair, this forms the buttons of the rattle. When threatened, the snake will prop itself up, shake the rattle, giving off a warning to the threat.

The rattle sound comes from pressing the buttons of the Keratin together, producing the crisp sound. Despite their appearance, the Timber Rattlesnake is docile and bites are rare.
