Description

A black-tail male buck among the high grass. Taken on San Juan Islands in between Lime Kiln State Park and Cattle Point.

Black-tail deer are abundant among San Juan due to no natural predators. The species is thriving and often swim from island to island.

The antlers you see pictured are among the fastest growing living tissues in the world. Male black-tails will shed their antlers every year and regrow them every Spring, bigger and bigger each growth.
